About the Area
Victoria is the capital city of British Columbia and is located on Vancouver Island. Victoria boasts many historic buildings and some fascinating museums featuring the history of Western Canada. The city benefits from one of Canada's mildest climates, which allows its residents to pursue outdoor pleasures all year round.
Vancouver Island has one of the world's most diverse ecosystems: rainforests, marshes, meadows, beaches, mountains, oceans, rivers, and lakes, create habitats for multitudes of wildlife species. In fact, the region is one of the world's premier locations for golf, whale watching, scuba diving, birding, as well as salmon and trout fishing.
The beauty and tranquility of this region has long been a draw for artists and artisans. Galleries, studios and shops selling unique, locally produced arts and crafts are found in many population centres, particularly on the Gulf Islands. The Lodge is located in Metchosin, home to the famous Metchosin International Summer School of the Arts (MISSA), aas well as the recently opened Metchosin Art Gallery. This beautiful gallery is a contemporary space that supports the local arts community and offers innovative exhibitions, performances, and artist talks.
The nearby community of Colwood hosts the Colwood Community Place, a local living network that helps you discover ways to go green, go local, etc. within a thriving city! Colwood Community is also the home of the Coast Collective Gallery, where you can meet with local artists, attend workshops or just browse through the gallery. Click on the photos below to visit both the Metchosin Art Gallery, Colwood Community Place and the Coast Collective Gallery.
