Ready for beaches, festivals, fine art and great food? It’s your summer, make the most of it!

Summer in Victoria is amazing. The sky is blue, the temperatures warm and balmy – the whole city is in a party mood. There are so many opportunities in the summertime it can be hard to know where to start! Not to worry. We’ve compiled a list of can’t-miss summer memory-makers. Get out and enjoy a beautiful season in Victoria BC – the most beautiful part of the world (we’re not biased…).

Take in a world-class fireworks display

No summer is complete without an evening of fireworks at The Buchart Gardens. Every Saturday evening, during the summer months, Butchart puts on a musical fireworks extravaganza. This iconic garden becomes even more magical at night as fireworks light up the sky and thousands of twinkling lights sparkle along the garden paths. Bring a picnic and come early to claim your spot!

Get out on the water

Try one of the kayak tours offered by Kelp Reef Kayak Tours in the inner harbour and have an adventure! Their patient, friendly, knowledgeable guides work hard to ensure you have a great experience – even if you’ve never held a paddle before. See Victoria from a new angle and get up-close and personal with harbour seals, river otters and many species of migrating seabirds.

Surround yourself with beauty

The 25th Annual Arts & Music in the Gardens at HCP showcases over 50 local artists, 3 stages of live music and 9 acres of award-winning gardens. Truly this is a weekend to feed the soul. Come away refreshed and inspired – and perhaps the proud new owner of a beautiful piece of local art.

Make a new (insect) friend

The Victoria Bug Zoo is hidden gem. Knowledgeable and enthusiastic entomologists will introduce you to some of the strangest and coolest bugs out there. Hold a giant Walking Stick Bug. See if you can out-hiss a hissing cockroach. Marvel at a glow-in-the-dark scorpion. Experience nature at its most weird and wonderful.

Feel like a kid again

Laughter and excitement are in the air for “The Running of the Goats” at Beacon Hill Children’s Farm. Twice daily the resident goats enjoy a pell-mell scramble to their barn and back again. Stick around afterward and meet the other residents of this charming petting zoo – bunnies, pot-bellied pigs and even a few peacocks.

Relish local flavours

Hungry for fresh bread? Artisan cheese? How about a tall, creamy cone of locally made ice cream? It’s no wonder Esquimalt Farmers Market won “Best Market in BC” in both 2017 & 2018. Each Thursday evening from mid-May to mid-September, Memorial Park in Esquimalt is a buzz with locally grown produce, live music, artisans, food trucks and local goodies! Pack your picnic basket with dinnerware, a napkin and cash. Bon Appetit!

Enjoy the symphony

Once each summer, the Victoria Symphony plays a special concert for the people of Victoria from a floating stage in the Inner Harbour. And the cost to attend this magical event? Zero! It’s absolutely FREE. Symphony Splash features special guests, old favorites and a grand finale performance of Tchaikovsky’s 1812 Overture – complete with fireworks! Come early and set up your blanket on the legislature grounds, grab a bite at the food trucks, wander through the gardens, or just relax and enjoy the view.
